A cat getting rescued out of a tree. It’s one of those things photojournalists often joke about, but never really shoot. Well, yesterday I did. Check out today’s (6-39-07) Gadsden Times for pictures from the attempted rescue. I say attempted because as city employee Kevin Hollingsworth got near the cat with his bucket, the cat bolted 40 feet down the trunk of the tree. Here’s an out take.

Sometimes the old stand by simple method of making a human chain to help get someone out of a ditch works best.

Today I was at the health fair in Attalla. Pretty standard assignment. Nothing too exciting, just people looking over booths of information. But when the Vintage Ladies came out to perform, that was another story! This group of senior ladies have a bit of a variety show with singing, dancing and comedy. They were awesome! I was hoping to do a photo story on them. But when I got back to the office, I found out that someone had done one a while back, before I started working here. Oh well. Regardless, I hope I’m still rockin’ when I’m “vintage”!

“Well there’s your problem. The tires are supposed to be skinny side down.”

I swear these truckers always wreck on this off ramp. Whenever ˆ hear the scanner be-boop about an overturned 18-wheeler I know right where to go. At least this one had no stinky payload.

On behalf of The Gadsden Times and the Photography Department, welcome to our new Blog. We started this in June 2007, hopefully to strengthen our presence on the internet and to reinforce our connection to the community. Please comment on our work if you wish. Just keep it clean, please.. there are children on the internet also.-Marc Golden, Chief Photographer.

The receptionists at the plant insisted that with my lumbar bag, gear and spiffy blue hard hart that I looked like Bob the Builder.

You always find the most strange things in thrift stores. This photo was shot at the new Eagle Rock Thrift Store in Rainbow City. After I found shot my safe photos, I started scouring the isles looking for intersting bits. Then I found the duck. The Duck
I wonder what the coversation was like as the product was being invented. “Hmm, we’ve got this cookie jar but… we just need to crank it up another notch. Eureka! I’ve got it, lets make it in the shape of waterfowl.” Now that sir is a capital idea
