I really like shooting features in the locker room at sporting events, it is remarkable how quickly I stop being noticed and people go about the tasks at hand-preparing for some down home pigskin pugilism.

As most you you know, we are short handed in the Times Photo department at the moment, so I wasn’t able to spend much time out at Foggy Hollow. I spent an hour on Friday afternoon out in Calhoun County shooting the early arrivals. While we cover the Bluegrass Gatherin’ regularly and you end up with some of the same pictures it is a remarkably fun place- very welcoming and very easy to make pictures. The welcoming aspect is great compared to shooting news assignments where people are annoyed at having their picture taken-this is the exact opposite-everyone loves to talk to you and even though I have only been out to the hollow for three seperate events I still run into people I have photographed before.

Oh and the mandolin picture was shot with the lens baby and whaddya know it is sharp.
